Extra-curricular activities, whether sporting or artistic, encourage and complement our students’ overall development.

To this end, Mater Salvatoris School offers a range of activities which turn leisure time into a creative space for personal enjoyment, through learning different skills.

At the end of morning lessons, students have an area where they are free to do the following activities:

  • Music Academy +
Mater Salvatoris School is an Elementary and Intermediate Level Approved Music Teaching Centre, where students have the chance to live out and develop their musical calling by learning an instrument.
    Musical specialisms:

    • Piano
    • Violin
    • Viola
    • Chello
    • Double Bass
    • Oboe
    • Clarinet
    • French Horn
  • Dance +
Allows personal expressive and communicative abilities to develop. During the year, students learn one of the main Spanish regional dances which have shaped our nation’s rich cultural heritage.
  • Choir +
Our students’ passion for the Choir stands out in the Music School. Directed by Adrián Cobo, it gives our students the chance to work on their voices by doing an activity which encourages discipline and perseverance, as well as creating precious moments singing at the main School Feast Days.
  • Fun Sport +
In addition to PE lessons, once a week Primary School students and those in the first two years of Secondary School participate in an internal Fun Sport competition which promotes sporting values such as team spirit, the desire to improve, fair play…
  • Drama +
The drama workshop aims to develop students’ expressive and creative potential. During the year they prepare for the stage an original play or an adaptation of one of the universal classics.
Off the clock, the Shcool offers different activities, some of them given in Spanish and some others in English, so that second language immersion takes place in a fun and creative manner.

ACTIVITIES IN ENGLISH

    • Games & Tales +
The play centre is the place where children begin to shape values and behaviour which will be essential in their adulthood. It is also the place where they will become familiar with the English language. Important skills such as creativity, self-esteem, solidarity or respect play an important role in this workshop. It is well known that tales foster the child´s imagination and understanding of the language.
    • Dance +
Dance is a great and fun way to keep children active, it improves social and communication skills as they are asked to communicate and cooperate as a group. It is also an exceptional way for them to physically release their emotions. In dance classes, children are asked to memorize movement sequences, this helps children practise their memory skills. They will learn choreographies through different styles such as Funky, Jazz or Hip Hop.
    • Robotics +
Robotics is a concrete way to build cognitive development as well as other academic areas such as Mathematics, communication skills or strategic thinking. Children become actively involved in their own learning process. Building and programming robots goes hand-in-hand with problem solving and practical reasoning in a way that children don´t even realise they are learning. Robotic education provides kids opportunities to learn core science concepts in a fun and active approach with a final reward: play with the robot they have built.
    • Videogames +
It is an approach to children´s favourite games though a different point of view. They will discover how a videogame is developed from the core web, they will also create their own videogame using digital platforms as well as offline tools. Along the year important skills such as reasoning, problem solving, mental agility and autonomy will be strengthened.
    • Science +
We truly believe that we “learn by doing”. The main sources of our knowledge are practice and experimentation. Essential aspects relating science are fun and the element of surprise which are always present when doing experiments. The main objective in this workshop is to encourage imagination, self-confidence, autonomy and, most important of all, to learn from our mistakes.
    • Radio +
Online radio broadcasts created and performed by the students. They will improve their knowledge of the English language by learning new vocabulary and structures, it promotes creativity and encourages students to develop their oral skills. Students will produce their own radio programmes which will be recorded and, later, broadcast.
    • 3D Printing +
3D printing is a novelty nowadays. It is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. This technology is a revolution in education as using 3D printers in the future will be as common as the use of tablets and smartphones nowadays. There will be different workshops in which children will be able to create from jewels to toys.

ACTIVITIES IN SPANISH

    • Classical Ballet +
Through ballet, personal growth, self-esteem and creative expression are all improved. As well as practising coordination, agility in movement and balance, students acquire an especially elegant way of moving their bodies and learn rules about order and discipline which they apply almost effortlessly in other settings, whether that be their studies or other activities.
    • Sports Skills +
The goal of this activity is to allow Pre-School students to start acquiring a taste for movement and physical activity from an early age, and to gain coordination and control of their bodies through sport, all adapted to the characteristics of their own age group.
    • Judo +
This is a competitive sport which in 1964 was included in the Olympics for the first time. UNESCO has declared it the best sport for children from infancy to 14 years of age as it offers a complete education: developing psychomotor skills and relationships with others and using fun and games as key elements.
    • Rhythmic Gymnastics +
An activity which has been welcomed with great enthusiasm by our girls. In it, they elaborate on dances they have previously learnt and progressively educate the body. This sporting discipline does demand some body work, but is done in a fun way.
    • Skating +
Skating is a comprehensive sport ideal for psychomotor development, especially balance and coordination. It requires interaction with classmates and group play, thereby encouraging integration and socialising. It is a lot of fun and can be practised in different forms: hockey, figure skating, speed skating, etc. It is a very safe sport as full protection is used and it is practised under the instruction of qualified professionals.
    • Tennis for Beginners +
As well as having fun, socialize and educate, tennis strengthens and tones the muscles of children and develop their motor skills and coordination. The main objective is that all students have fun playing with a racket and a ball, acquiring knowledge of the basic technique.
    • Mini Tennis +
The mini-tennis is the initial stage of learning in which students from 3 to 6 years old begin to develop the basic tennis technique through fun games adapted to their age. In short, that the students become familiar with the basics of the sport through play and fun.
    • Football +
Practicing football regularly is considered to be very beneficial, as it stimulates the physical and cognitive development. But above all, football is a team sport, which involves fun and education in values (respect, generosity, kindness, perseverance).
    • Flamenco Dance +
This art is used as a tool for learning and experimentation on both a cultural and a motor skills level. Coordination and rhythm are given increasing importance as this activity is practised, and sensitivity towards music and dance culture is also developed.
    • Photography +
Is a booming activity nowadays and it is extremely attractive as it mixes art, science and technology. It is designed so that the students can develop spatial vision and visual acuity, the use of new technologies, sense of aesthetics, self-improvement and creativity.
    • Art +
This activity aims to encourage the development of creativity and the capacity for self-expression in a fun way through learning about different materials and techniques such as charcoal drawing, watercolours, tempera painting, oil painting…
    • Drama +
It helps girls develop verbal and physical expression, and to stimulate their memory and mental agility. Our Drama workshop focuses on the development of the creativity of the students. During the course they will prepare the staging of any classic or adapted play.
    • Wellness +
Doing aerobics or Pilates exercises helps to maintain a healthy lifestyle and contributes to acquiring greater flexibility, improved skills, agility and motor coordination.
